Key Ideas
Introduction
Cancer has been around for millions of years. Scientists have dated cancer back to prehistoric times, there were about 200 sightings in early cavemen. Throughout time the understanding of cancer increased as it became a popular decrease. Most people believed that cancer was contagious since it became more common as time past. Cancer begins when abnormal cells grow uncontrollably. Lung cancer is the most common and dangerous cancer of all.
Detectors Today
Lung cancer is known as the hardest cancer to detect. Lung cancer is an uncontrollable increase of abnormal cells, abnormal cells are found in one lung or both. The abnormal cells are nothing like regular lung cells instead of developing into healthy lung tissue they stop the functioning of the lung by growing into a tumor. If the tumor is not treated in time it becomes a cancerous tumor which creates lung cancer. The most common way to detect lung cancer is to do a screening test. The problem with screen tests is that they cost a lot of money.
In The Future
Our new lung cancer detecting technology is based on ultrasonic scans. These type of scans emit sound waves to create images. The person who usually performs these scans are called sonographers. Ultrasonic sensors can detect tumors but cannot determine if a tumor is cancerous or not. Theses scans are usually used on pregnant women to find data on the baby’ s age gender and etc. These problems make the ultrasonic scan very unreliable, in order to improve the quality of the images created by the scan we have thought of a way to make the scan more efficient.
Discoveries
In order for us to do our project many things in the past had to happen to make us successful. Some of the things that happened are Nylon was created, the ultrasonic sensor was created, the Doppler effect was made, and development of a 3-D center. Thanks to all these things happening we can use it to make our fully functional lung cancer detector.
Consequences
The product that we created will be used to help many people but there are stills some consequences that we will face. There are also some good effects like the resistant material the other hand there are things like the danger of materials we use and the effect of the environment on our sensors.
Conclusion
Even with today's technology lung cancer is extremely hard to detect and can go undetected for years until it is too late to cure. Lung cancer is an increase of abnormal cells. Instead of developing into healthy tissue they stop the functioning of the organ by growing into a tumor. Today's technology is very expensive and could be misread. Our project idea is to create a device that can locate cancer using ultrasound technology.
